Mental Health 101

Supporting Mental Health

in the Workplace


In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, HRLF is proud to host an interactive workshop followed by a networking social.

This 1.5-hour workshop and breakout session addresses the issue of mental health in the workplace; how to implement policy fostering mental wellness, inclusive recruitment, workplace accommodations, staff and leadership training, awareness initiatives, and employee assistance programs. Learn the distinction between mental health and mental illness and how to encourage help-seeking behaviors in and outside of the workplace. We will also answer frequently asked questions on the topic and provide helpful resources.

Learning Objectives:

●  What you need to know about mental health conditions including warning signs

●  How to support your own mental health

  How to support mental health and create psychologically safe workplaces

Skills to engage in and guide mental health conversations as HR practitioners/leaders

  Mental wellness in a hybrid workplace (what should leaders consider now that most employers are hybrid?)

Rebecca Kiessling is the Executive Director of the National Alliance

of Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Virginia, serving the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church. Rebecca is passionate aboutcreating communities that arestigma-free, advocating for real change, and breaking down barriers to resources that can improve the lives of people, families and communities affected by mental illness. Before joining NAMI, Rebecca worked extensively with nonprofits for almost 20 years. During her career, she has testified before Congress, received national awards for strategic communications, and built nationwide grassroots coalitions for advocacy. Most recently, she was managing director of nonprofit with chapters in the US and throughout the world, helping further the education of medical students. A long-time resident of Northern Virginia, Rebecca has degrees from the George Washington University and from Georgetown University, as well as a certificate in Leadership and Management from Harvard Business School.
